NMMU Business School announces Transnet CEO Brian Molefe as Guest Speaker

Port Elizabeth, 23 September 2013 –  NMMU Business School announced today that Transnet CEO Brian Molefe will address the business community and public sector of Nelson Mandela Bay on 3 October 2013 at its Bird Street Campus.   In an upcoming public lecture to be hosted on 3 October, Molefe will explore “unusual business”  distilling his views, opinions and thoughts around forward-thinking, alternative and unusual approaches to business and leadership in times of fundamental change.

In the interview published this month by Destiny Man Magazine for its front cover that features the Transnet CEO, Molefe stated that “businesses are not always what they look like.”    In the story, Molefe challenged existing paradigms and modes of thought for business and leadership especially when he discussed future plans at Transnet:  diversifying South Africa’s state-owned transport firm, including research operations and pursuing ‘greener’, more energy-efficient locomotives.

Molefe has been the Group CEO of Transnet since 2011.  He has received several accolades from industry organizations and professional bodies especially for his contribution to the South African economy. These awards include the Financial Services Achiever of the Year by the Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals (Absip) - 2003, Anglo American Award for BEE leader of the year - 2005, the Absip Newsmaker of the year – 2006, Africa Investor Investment Awards, Institutional Investor of the year – 2008.

Molefe holds a Master of Business Leadership and a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) degree from the University of South Africa (Unisa) as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Economics from the University of London.  In addition, he is an executive education alumnus of Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, Harvard Business School, and Wharton Business School

This public lecture is open to the diverse stakeholder constituencies of NMMU Business School in business, management and leadership, including small and medium-sized business owners and entrepreneurs as well as private and public sector firms.
