Port Elizabeth, 12 February 2013 –NMMU Business School was named the preferred service provider by Eastern Cape Office of the Premier (OTP), and was awarded a tender for leadership skills development of public servants in emerging, middle and senior management positions.
Several flagship management and leadership programmes offered by NMMU Business School, including the Advanced Leadership Programme, Management Development Programme and the Executive Development Programme, have been integrated to create the Leadership Development Programme for Public Managers (LDP) for the Eastern Cape government.
The Leadership Development Programme’s overarching aims and goals are to contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of provincial administration. The programme falls within the Presidential Strategic Leadership Development Portfolio which aims to support the development of leadership and management capacity in the public sector.
Finance, Human Resource Management, Communication, Strategic Management, Leadership, Economic Principles, Project Management, Customer Relationship Management, Governance and Policy Formulation form the study and learning backbone of the programme.
“The programme will embrace adult learning principles such as action learning, application of knowledge in simulator projects and mutual interaction. It will also promote the use of mentors in the workplace,” says Leon Mouton, Director of the NMMU Business School’s Leadership Academy.
“NMMU Business School’s commercial education and training division has been on a strong developmental trajectory over the last year, as recent business school rankings by South African media shows. The latest public service sector account win is further complimented by projects for multinational firms that have selected us as an education and training partner for organisational and HR skills development. On the other side of the spectrum, our Graduate School has been named as one of the Top 200 Executive MBA’s in Africa by Eduniversal and as one of the top three executive MBA’s in South Africa.”
The Leadership Development Programme for the Eastern Cape Office of the Premier is presented at NMMU Business School’s East London and Border Kei office in Vincent, East London and will see 240 students from the public administration sector of the Eastern Cape embarking on a journey of learning at NMMU Business School between February 2013 and October 2015. The first group commenced on 4 February 2013 with the Advanced Leadership Programme.
