NMMU Business School Receives Prestigious EDAMBA Accreditation

Brussels, Belgium, 6 September 2013 -- Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University Business School has become only the second school on the African continent to be admitted as a member of the prestigious European Doctoral Programmes Association in Management and Business Administration (EDAMBA).

Headquartered in Brussels at the European Institute of Advanced Management Studies, EDAMBA grants membership only after an extensive assessment visit by an international team, which included the current and immediate past presidents of EDAMBA for NMMU.

Prof Steve Burgess, NMMU Business School Director, believes that international recognition by EDAMBA is an important milestone for the dynamic School.

“Reaching our goal of being a world-class graduate business school requires that we invite rigorous external reviews and keep abreast of the latest global trends, while remaining alive to our African emerging markets context and celebrating our diversity.”

“EDAMBA helps participating schools improve doctoral education by promoting research cooperation among an exclusive network that includes some of the world’s most respected business schools, such as Cranfield, Insead, Aarhus, ESADE , Grenoble and Warwick, among others.”

“We hope that EDAMBA members will benefit from our location in one of the world’s most exciting learning laboratories. According to McKinsey Global Institute, almost 40% of the world’s economic growth will take place in mid-size cities in emerging markets, exceeding the combined growth of high income countries and megacities in emerging markets. Mid-sized African cities such as Port Elizabeth will feature prominently in world growth during the next two decades. There is an exciting potential for path-breaking research and learning.”

Earlier this year, Eduniversal global rankings of the top 1000 business schools placed NMMU Business School among the top 3% of business schools in the world. The School also has been recognised for its thought leadership in Asia by CMO Asia.
